BESS sizing and business-case guide
What determines battery power, energy capacity and commercial value? Start with site data and test the operating assumptions.
How do I choose kW and kWh?
kW describes charge/discharge power; kWh describes stored energy. For EV support, assess simultaneous demand above grid capacity and its duration. For peak shaving, use time-series load data and the tariff’s demand calculation. Nameplate capacity is not the same as usable AC energy.
Can trading and peak shaving be combined?
They can share one installation, but their value is not automatically additive. Reserve enough power and state of charge for site commitments and model the dispatch priorities, grid limits and trading arrangements.
What belongs in the financial model?
Include capital cost and scope, efficiency, usable energy, degradation, grid charges, operating and service costs, replacement assumptions, market fees, taxes where applicable, and the value of energy displaced. Compare low, base and high scenarios.
Does a BESS guarantee a payback period?
No. Payback depends on project cost, utilisation, tariffs, market prices and operating constraints. Historical calculations and modelled scenarios must be labelled and dated; potential trading revenue is not a measured saving.
What data should I send?
Ideally a full year of interval load data, PV generation, electricity bills and tariff information, grid connection limits, voltage, EV charging plans and project timeline. Provide what is available and identify missing data.
Is backup power included?
Do not assume it. Backup or uninterrupted supply needs a compatible electrical architecture, switching, protection and a defined load scope. It must be explicitly engineered and included in the offer.

Share the site and your role, intended application, grid connection power and voltage, target kW/kWh and timeline. Load profiles, PV data or a single-line diagram help us assess the technical scope.
